Em Hoggett

<a class="spreaker-player" href="https://www.spreaker.com/episode/15614777" data-resource="episode_id=15614777" data-width="100%" data-height="350px" data-theme="dark" data-playlist="show" data-playlist-continuous="true" data-autoplay="false" data-live-autoplay="false" data-chapters-image="true" data-episode-image-position="right" data-hide-logo="true" data-hide-likes="false" data-hide-comments="false" data-hide-sharing="false" >Listen to "Em Hoggett Releases What I Want To Say To You" on Spreaker.</a><script async src="https://widget.spreaker.com/widgets.js"></script>

The message is clear on “What I Want To Say To You”, the brutally raw new EP from Em Hoggett: She was raped. She spoke up. She’s encouraging other survivors to do the same. And donating the net proceeds of her new release to the American charity It’s On Us, founded by Vice President Joe Biden, and Rape Crisis England and Wales to raise awareness and offer assistance for rape survivors.

Vocally, Em’s voice speaks to the vocal passion of Amy Winehouse, lyrical power of Birdy and intensity of Adele. And with gut-crunching, piano-driven chords, haunting melodies and seething lyrics seething through the passion of a musical inferno, “What I Want To Say To You” is a personal journey through hell – from the attack, hatred and feeling of worthlessness to ultimately finding salvation through music to save herself as well as empower other victims to seek help and realize that they’re not alone.

“It was like my body was giving me a message that I had to DO something about it,” Em explains. “I called my mum for advice and she advised I write a letter to my attacker, not necessarily to send, but that getting your feelings out on a page is something that helps many survivors.”

The letter came in the form of a song – a song that would evolve into the four songs that became the EP.

After suppressing the emotions for years, and still struggling with denial, Em wrote the title track in only 10 minutes. A few days later, she posted the song on social media as a way of letting the experience go, begin the healing process and also to help other survivors feel understood and less alone.

The response was overwhelming. She received touching notes of support from both close friends and strangers who had been through the same experience and felt that the song helped them cope with their trauma.

As Em began to accept what had happened, she became angry. Very. Angry. And not only at the realization of her own attack, but also in response to others who had been attacked. "The resulting song is “Anger”, a raw, natural expression of emotion that was closely followed by "Will It Always Be Like This" as she wondered if the darkness would consume the rest of her life under a painful cloud.
In the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, she composed the final track, “Get Out” to deal with the feeling that an attacker and the experience would always physically live inside her body.

“Music saved me in a moment of utter loss,” Em says.

Rarely does a Rock Star step free of the tour bus to tour the towns they're performing in.  That's all changed for 3 Doors Down front man Brad Armstrong.  Twenty years deep into the chapters of Rock n Roll and he realizes he's missed a serious part of the journey.  Getting off that bus required a huge change in his life.

Corey Wells Of 3 Dog Night

We all love it when the one footing the bill walks into the room a very happy camper.  In most cases there's always some sort of bonus for work well done.  For the late Corey Wells of 3 Dog Night he remembered what it was like when the record company first heard the song Mama Told Me Not To Come.

Troy Luccketta From Tesla

To watch a drummer perform live is a time machine moment.  Every beat leads the band in forward motion.  How far off the truth am I?  Tesla's drummer Troy Luccetta says being in the future is where it's at.  Even when the band got together in 2000, to relearn those songs wasn't a trip back but rather a reason to be where they were about to take them.  Look for the new Tesla album produced by Phil Collen of Def Leppard in early 2019.

YOU’RE NOT LOST: An Inspired Action Plan for Finding Your Own Way by Maxie McCoy (TarcherPerigee, On sale Sept 2018) will become the manifesto for a generation of women who don’t always have the self-confidence to trust their instincts and go for it. Instead of telling you all the things you need to change to figure out your life, YOU’RE NOT LOST focuses on returning you to the power you already have. This compelling guide gets to the root of the problem, showing you how to drop the panic-inducing, big-picture obsession over “Where is my life going?” and instead shines a spotlight on the small yet impactful decisions that will take you from lost to found.
Maxie guides readers through accomplishing 3 big milestones– Ditch, Create, and Rise:
DITCH -- drop all the trapped mindsets that keep you feeling lost, like thinking you need to change in order to begin or believing you need to know where you’re going before you get started
CREATE -- pick up momentum by beginning to live the future you are searching for. You’ll get a life-changing survey to send to friends so you can see your potential the way they do. And you’ll see how lucky charms and rituals can be used to your advantage.
RISE -- everything you need to keep going, to keep ascending. You’ll understand the power of ongoing, bite-sized plans and how to thrive on this path, which will be anything but linear.

Jon Carmichael

One year ago millions of Americans came together as “cosmic magic” swept away America’s troubles during the Great American Eclipse. For the first time in 99 years the moon’s shadow raced across the U.S. becoming the most-observed and photographed moment in history.
In celebration of the anniversary, New York-based artist Jon Carmichael is publicly unveiling a photograph, which many say, could be the greatest photo of an eclipse ever achieved.
In order to capture this amazing photograph, Carmichael flew across the country to catch Southwest Airlines from Portland, Oregon to St. Louis, Missouri. His biggest fear was not getting a window seat and missing the once-in-a-lifetime moment. But thanks to the fantastic crew, he got a great seat and the flight captain performed a series of five 180-degree turns while under the moon’s shadow ensuring that he would get the shots he desired.
Jon Carmichael, a Las Vegas native, is a self-taught photographer who started his career at age 20 with the purchase of his first camera. He quickly became one of the youngest high profile photographers in the world with photos of President Barack Obama, Lady Gaga, Stevie Wonder and others. Carmichael’s deepest passion however, remained in Contemporary landscape and astrophotography. For the last 10 years, Carmichael has devoted his efforts to honing his craft and creating a series of breathtaking photographs from many of the locations he has traveled to around the world

Bill Holderman and Erin Simms

<a class="spreaker-player" href="https://www.spreaker.com/episode/15588077" data-resource="episode_id=15588077" data-width="100%" data-height="350px" data-theme="dark" data-playlist="show" data-playlist-continuous="true" data-autoplay="false" data-live-autoplay="false" data-chapters-image="true" data-episode-image-position="right" data-hide-logo="true" data-hide-likes="false" data-hide-comments="false" data-hide-sharing="false" >Listen to "Bill Holderman and Erin Simms Creators Of Book Club" on Spreaker.</a><script async src="https://widget.spreaker.com/widgets.js"></script>

Book Club follows four lifelong friends whose lives are turned upside down to hilarious ends when their book club attempts to shake things up by tackling the infamous "Fifty Shades of Grey." From discovering new romance to rekindling old flames, they inspire each other to make their next chapter the best chapter. The film also stars Andy Garcia, Don Johnson, Craig T. Nelson, Richard Dreyfuss and Ed Begley Jr.  Book Club is a definitive choice for Holderman’s directorial debut. A film about women in their 60s breaking both self-imposed and relational barriers – carried by a cast of Oscar© winning legends - is an atypical choice for a younger male director who co-wrote and co-produced it as well. Even better, he co-wrote and co-produced it with his friend and colleague Erin Simms, an intrepid filmmaker, who like the narrative’s characters, is emboldened to break any “no.” It’s a debut for Simms too – the first film she wrote and produced.
The Blu-ray Combo Pack is loaded with uproarious bonus content including deleted and extended scenes, interviews with filmmakers and the iconic cast, explorations of the writing and casting process and behind-the-scenes footage from the set.

Images of Eden is a fearless concept band that brings together familiar, well-loved elements of metal and rock combined with their own unique vision, message and delivery. The result is a distinct musical hybrid that speaks directly to the struggles and tribulations of the listener.

Musically, Images of Eden draws its inspiration from a hybrid of modern hard rock combined with classic metal, creating a modern sound rife with progressive elements and impassioned, unfeigned vocal delivery.

Each release from Images of Eden is a chapter in the tale of a life’s journey, dealing specifically with the trials and darkness that each of us must face in this world. Each track is meant to inspire the listener to overcome these obstacles through human perseverance strengthened by guidance from above. The distinct vision that gives Images of Eden its identity is about drawing strength and determination from faith to see us through our toughest times, but what makes IoE stand out as one of a kind is that its message is simultaneously accessible to everyone while still speaking to the listener on a very personal level.

In early 2018, Images of Eden released a high-end production music video for their single, “Shield Me,” and also has signed a deal with Pavement Entertainment to release their fourth CD, Soulrise. The album was mixed and mastered by legendary producer, Bill Metoyer, and will be released on August 17, 2018. In addition to this, the follow up release to Soulrise has already been written and the band has officially started tracking. The goal for 2018 is to hit the road for a tour in support of Soulrise and have the fifth CD (tentatively titled Angel Born) completely recorded by the end of the year.

Sixteen fighters will be facing off with one another this fall for the championship belt on the revival of Mark Burnett’s boxing franchise series The Contender. The 16 Contenders come from a wide variety of professional boxing backgrounds and stations in life, bringing their unique stories, personalities, strengths and motivations to the series.

Each fighter will be vying to be declared the new 160-pound middleweight champion of The Contender and take home the winner’s six-figure purse — a prize, which, for all the fighters, represents a better life for their families and loved ones who have been there with them through all the ups and downs of their journeys. Says Burnett: “The Contender takes unscripted TV to its grittiest. It has incredible professional fighters and real professional fights. The edge of your seat drama and true stories sets a tone that our audiences will be expecting and I love it.”

The Contender is hosted by undefeated boxing champion and HBO expert commentator Andre "Son of God” Ward. The San Francisco Bay-Area native has a boxing record of 32-0 with 16 knock outs. He is a 2004 Olympic Gold medalist and 2011 Fighter of the Year. He retired from boxing in 2017. He recently appeared in the movie Creed.

The original Contender series ran for four seasons (2005-2009) and launched multiple fighters into contention for world titles, including title winners Sergio Mora, Cornelius Bundrage, Sakio Bika, and Sam Soliman.

From the moment their children are born, mothers are under tremendous pressure to be “perfect.” They are expected to keep their emotions in check during grocery-aisle tantrums, engage their children regularly with Pinterest-worthy activities, and eschew jarred baby food for organic, homemade creations. Living up to these kinds of expectations is challenging enough without also having to manage the coping mechanisms we employ to handle this kind of pressure. For moms who struggle with alcoholism, parenting can prove to be especially challenging.
Humorist Dana Bowman candidly details these struggles in HOW TO BE PERFECT LIKE ME (A Central Recovery Press paperback; on sale August 21, 2018), the follow-up to her award-winning memoir, Bottled. Offering comic relief and encouragement to moms seeking a coping mechanism for the day-to-day expectations and monotonous schedules of family life, Bowman draws on her hilariously relatable experiences to guide readers to insightful conclusions. Parents from all backgrounds will appreciate Bowman’s playful sarcasm and unbridled observations in wry chapters such as:

  • How to Stop Buying All the Self-Help Books
  • How to Relapse in Footie Pajamas
  • How to Shop at Costco and Not Give into Despair
  • How to Be Married and Content at the Same Time
  • How to Escape Your Family

Tackling heavy issues such as overwhelming dread, marital dissatisfaction, death of loved ones, and the depression accompanying parenthood, HOW TO BE PERFECT LIKE ME rejects quick fixes and opts for radical acceptance. And, it is Bowman’s profound choice to embrace humor in the face of despair rather than to relentlessly live up to society’s unattainable ideals that liberates her readers from oppressive perfectionism.
Written for those who worry that their entire purpose in life has been reduced to wiping down counters, as well as for moms who have found themselves helplessly drinking vodka from Veggie Tales sippy cups, this insightful and entertaining book is a much-needed, empathic guide for parents seeking encouragement on the path to sobriety.

When your biggest dream is to be successful by way of being creative, that doesn't always win over the generations of family tradition before you.  Zaidoon received his education in the UK but wouldn't use the lessons learned until a lengthy stay in Canada before moving to the United States.  A very active soccer player, he still hadn't found what he was looking for until he realized that he and his children were creating a book.  An avid illustrator Zaidoon found pleasure in sketching out animals for his children's stories.  Then one day a cat connected with his imagination and he couldn't shake it loose.  It became his first published story.  This is only a sliver of his incredible journey that's brought great light to many places you'd least expect.  A true champion of living out a dream while making sure traditions aren't broken.

Beautifully Broken is an inspiring true story of hope that follows three fathers. As they fight to save their families, their lives become intertwined in an unlikely journey across the globe, where they learn the healing power of forgiveness and reconciliation. Filmed on location in South Africa and Louisiana, the film boasts an impressive ensemble cast and the title song is performed by three different artists (pop star Plumb, Grammy®-winning country artist John Berry, and acclaimed gospel singer CeCe Winans.)
Randy Hartley is the film’s executive producer. He was a successful financial planner near Nashville who appeared to have it all when he first met William Mwizerwa, a Rwandan businessman who lost everything escaping his country during the mass genocide in the 1990s. Mwizerwa lost his parents and most members of his extended family. He spent years fighting to get his wife and children to America. Hartley and Mwizerwa connected immediately at a Cub Scout meeting for their first-grade sons. Mwizerwa was the founder of Legacy Mission Village in Nashville, assisting other refugees integrating into Middle Tennessee. Hartley and his wife had been sponsoring a child from Rwanda, Umuhoza, who was the same age as their middle daughter, Andrea, and also her childhood pen pal. But the two had something even more important in common — they both would do anything to save their
