December 2, 2020

I could give you a long list of excuses.  But that’s all they are.  I’ve been absent from this recording studio for eleven unanswered days.  The daily writing hasn’t stopped.  If anything it’s gained.  I just can’t figure out how life got in the way except to say we’re all going through the big change.  Not the big change your parents always talked about.  The big change of 2020.  Mine includes being out on the frontline.  Yeah!  Out there!  Not for a quick trip then back in the studio but hours at a time.  Face to face.  Got my mask.  Wear it with pride.  No plastic gloves though.  Not fighting anything.  Just use my hands a lot.  Out there on the frontline.  With you, your neighbors, community and people you’ve never met.  My daily de-frag journal is filled with so many questions without having to raise the voice or increase the beats in the heart.  I had to face the big change.  Answer the calling.  Allow the command to put me right there.  The big change.  So many of us are going through it.  Careers that ended or have been stalled.  Making up our minds to take what we know and put it on a different playing field.  And you know what?  It’s working.  Using the very skills that have shaped a forty one radio career out there on the frontline in the center of real people.  You honestly are so incredibly funny.  I always thought being in a studio sharing content and music was being with you.  No!  There’s a huge difference between being with you and being there, right there with you.  As a people going through the big change you’ve got stories.  I’m listening.  We’re sharing compassion, laughing about anything and still carrying life’s Olympic torch to a path of victory.  The big change.  Are you having to make choices that don’t agree with your dreams?  Do you fear you’ll never get back what a pandemic has taken away?  Don’t walk away from the big change.  In everything you have done there is a connection.  What truly appears to you as a wall is actually an open door or window.  Move through it.  I’ve learned so much about you by being with you.  Not for a brief moment but to replenish, repair and recognize a newer path of accountability that reaches beyond what we felt comfortable with in that place called Normal.  Is there such a place?  Normal?  The big change with Normal.  My wife is back to remote teaching.  I’m in the studio.  Our new normal feels like we’ve returned to March 2020.  Not in lockdown yet but when the big change doesn’t call me in to work, it’s like Normal has turned back the hands of time.  I don’t want to get back to Normal by walking back through February and January of 2020.  Then December 2019.  Normal!  The big change.  Then this thought fell from my writing instrument.  Normal is invisible.  Some people believe in it.  Some don’t.  Normal is invisible.  Jesus is invisible.  Some people believe.  Some don’t.  The big change.  Keep walking forward.
