Jonathan Kauffman

Listen to "Jonathan Kauffman Hippie Food" on Spreaker. IACP and James Beard Award-winning food writer Jonathan Kauffman journeys back more than half a century in time to tell the story of how a coterie of unusual men and women embraced an alternative lifestyle that would ultimately change how modern Americans eat. A fusion of Tom Wolfe and Michael Pollan—and impeccably researched—HIPPIE FOOD: How Back-to-the-Landers, Longhairs, and Revolutionaries Changed the Way We Eat chronicles how the counterculture rejected the square establishment of President Richard Nixon’s America and turned to a more idealistic, communal way of life and food. From the mystical rock-and-roll cult known as the Source Family and its legendary vegetarian restaurant in Hollywood to the brown bread the Diggers baked in the Summer of Love to the rise of the co-op and the origins of organic food, Kauffman reveals how today’s quotidian wholefoods staples—including sprouts, tofu, yogurt, brown rice, and whole grain bread—became part of our diets. Visiting Oregon, Texas, Tennessee, Minnesota, Michigan, Massachusetts, Washington, and Vermont, Kauffman tracks hippie food’s journey from niche oddity to a cuisine eaten in every corner of this country. A slick mix of gonzo playfulness, evocative detail, skillful pacing, and elegant writing—HIPPIE FOOD is a lively, engaging, and informative read that deepens our understanding of our culture and our lives today.

Jason Warrior

Listen to "rBeatz Music Update Jason Warrior On The Set Of The Four" on Spreaker. There truly isn't a singing competition like it. The Four on FOX puts singer songwriters in front of the unknown. Nobody knows who the next to sing is. And if they get past the panel the artist chooses who they'll vocal battle against. Jason Warrior openly admits that being in that unknowing situation puts a lot of pressure on the four waiting to be taken on.

April Diamond

Listen to "rBeatz Music Update April Diamond's Unafraid" on Spreaker. Singing for the first time in front of a large group of people is a shocking moment that most singer songwriters hold onto the entire journey. April Diamond was pulled out of the congregation at church by her grandmother and told "Sing." She didn't run. What she felt was a jolt of energy that influenced her to start participating with school plays and other shapes of music. April is on rBeatz Radio with the Dave Aude remix of Lose Control.

Brilliantly gifted men and women who happened to hear about a music competition unlike any other. Zhavia knows she's not like others. Rather than stay hidden from the platform she made the effort to push beyond the limitation. The payoff wasn't winning the challenge but rather the path after the four walls of a huge network look in different directions. Her journey is just getting started. Through us the paths have crossed.

Anggun

Listen to "rBeatz Music Update Anggun Talks About Being Creative" on Spreaker. The beautiful mind a creative person carries with them comes in all shapes and sizes. Following the success of his latest single, “Cheated on Yourself”, Rell returns with the feel good new single, “Ms. Sunray”. “Ms. Sunray” is a feel good song, that puts you in mind of an era filled with Outkast and Little Brother joints. Produced by TheMak3rs, this single def is one to rock too. Rell collaborated with Richie Alvarez organically and came out with something magical. The single, Ms. Sunray is now available on all major platforms. Rell Jerv on the making of “Ms. Sunray”: “Ms. Sunrey is one of my favorite records to date just because of the way it came together. I co-wrote this song with Richie and this is before we built our studio. So you had Rich, Scotti P, A.Jo and myself all in this really small room just trying to catch a vibe and when Rich did the ad lib in the beginning of the song it really set the tone. I am so grateful to him because he didn’t have to do the song but he is a person like me that only wants to make music at any cost, he was actually battling some health issues and could not even walk. So here is a guy that’s pushing himself around on a scooter, stuck in this small room with 3 other people just to make this happen and the way the song came together was so organic which is probably why it is one of my favorites.”

I mean, we all have an idea of what we want our life to be like, and years later, that's my life. It's just f-ing awesome." The espionage series follows Simmons' Howard Silk (a lowly cog in the bureaucratic machinery of a Berlin-based United Nations spy agency), who discovers that his organization safeguards the secret of a crossing into a parallel dimension. Pinnock plays Ian Shaw, the love interest of Silk's wife, Emily, played by Olivia Williams. "It's a really exciting, fun, thriller of a show," Pinnock says. "J.K. is a master at what he does, and he makes everything look so effortless. His presence on set - sometimes you wouldn't even know he was there. He's also really generous. There's no ego at all." "Everybody, in fact, was just so happy to be there and wanted it to be the best show that it could possibly be," he adds. "So egos went right out the window - we all just got on and did it. And whoever had a great idea, we went with that one."

Martha Brockenbrough

Listen to "Martha Brockenbrough Mom Are You Santa Claus" on Spreaker. Every parent who celebrates Christmas dreads that inevitable, daunting question. LOVE, SANTA is the beautifully affirming answer. Sooner or later, families that celebrate Christmas arrive at a crossroads when the children begin to question just who this jolly fellow with a beard and a red suit really is. How exactly does he get down those chimneys? How do his reindeer fly? How does he know what all the little children wish for? And why does his handwriting on gift cards look strangely familiar? Martha Brockenbrough manages to merge honesty and magic to help families in one of the most poignant of growing-up moments. LOVE, SANTA—a lavishly designed picture book by acclaimed author Martha Brockenbrough and illustrator Lee White—began as a real-life series of letters between Martha and her young daughter Lucy. As happens in so many families around the world, Lucy wrote letters to Santa every year that her mom dutifully answered in secret. Then came the year Lucy turned nine and the Christmas question all parents anticipate with dread. So Martha wrote one final letter, explaining the truth about the magic of Christmas and the true identity of Santa. Santa is bigger than any one person," she writes to her daughter. "Santa is love and magic and hope and happiness...." It's the gentlest possible letdown to a childhood fantasy, just right for children who are ready to hear the truth about Santa. Martha knew her story could help other parents going through the same daunting moments so she posted it on a popular parenting blog. The reaction was immediate: the original piece was picked up by national outlets including The New York Times, has been shared and pinned millions of times worldwide. Note: Love, Santa is for children who are definitely, absolutely, positively ready to hear the truth--or already know it--about Santa Claus.

Dr Demento

Listen to "Dr Demento and John Cafiero Covered In Punk" on Spreaker. Demented Punk Records’ inaugural release, “DR. DEMENTO COVERED IN PUNK,” is a special two-hour demented punk extravaganza featuring an eclectic mix of artists from the world of classic and contemporary punk/indie/alt-rock, along with special guest stars from film, TV and more. This audio oddity is a modern-day homage to radio icon Dr. Demento, a world-renowned institution who has championed novelty music and its creators since the 1970’s “I’ve been a fan of Dr. Demento nearly my entire life,” said album producer and participant, John Cafiero. “The Doc’s show has introduced audiences to counter culture and an eclectic talent pool of humor-infused music for nearly five decades; creating a musical movement that echoes the spirit of punk with its own unique voice. There are no airs, and everyone’s welcome. If you didn’t fit in— you fit in.” “Dr. Demento Covered In Punk” features over thirty different, never before released, all-new ‘punk’ cover versions of ‘mad music and crazy comedy’ songs famously heard on the airwaves of the legendary “Dr Demento Show”— intermixed with ‘wild card’ tracks showcasing some incredible, newly ‘demented’ versions of punk-rock classics! Joined by everyone from the Misfits, Joan Jett, Fred Schneider of the B52s, to “Weird Al” Yankovic, the late Adam “Batman” West (in one of his final performances), and Captain Kirk himself, William Shatner (to name just a few). The Doctor is in…and he’s ‘Covered in Punk’!! “I produced the album and curated the artist roster as if it was a musical art exhibition, or directing a feature film, and packaged it in the form of a traditional radio show hosted by Dr. D. himself. For some this might be an introduction to the lost art of the traditional radio format, and for others, a welcome return,” adds Cafiero. “The artists here range from classic to contemporary, from icons and legends, to fresh voices from the underground—but I don’t think any of them are doing what you might expect of them here! It’s really a celebration of the bizarre, and I can’t wait to unleash it on to the world.” “When John Cafiero first proposed this project several years ago I was a little puzzled at first, but when he began naming the artists and songs he’d lined up for the project I was totally sold,” said Dr. Demento. “What started out as a single CD soon grew into a double (and a triple for vinyl), and I hope you enjoy it as much as I’ve enjoyed helping John put this together.” “Dr. Demento: Covered In Punk” includes an in-depth booklet with equally entertaining liner notes and personal quotes from the participating artists, a foreword by album producer and Demented Punk founder John Cafiero (Misfits, Ramones, Osaka Popstar), an afterword by Dr. Demento, as well as factoids, photos and an array of dynamic paintings and illustrations created exclusively for the project by a team of visual artists spanning the world of comic books, classic punk rock album covers, Topps trading cards series, Mad Magazine and More. The cover artwork for the album was created by iconic illustrator Drew Friedman whose work has appeared in countless publications from Entertainment Weekly and Time Magazine to Rolling Stone and the New Republic and just about everything in between.

Trump would defeat Hillary Clinton, to win the presidency. In this timely, considered volume, written in clear, nonpartisan terms, Lichtman lays out the reasons Congress could remove Trump from the Oval Office: his ties to Russia before and after the election and his possible obstruction of the investigation-including firing F.B.I. Director James Comey-the complicated financial conflicts of interest at home and abroad violating the Constitution's Emoluments Clause, and his abuse of executive authority. The Case for Impeachment also offers a fascinating look at presidential impeachment proceedings throughout American history, including those involving Andrew Johnson, Richard Nixon, and Bill Clinton. Lichtman shows how Trump exhibits many of the flaws (and more) that have doomed past presidents, and argues, with clarity and power, that for Donald Trump's presidency, smoke has become fire. Historians, legal scholars, and politicians alike agree: we are in politically uncharted waters. The cost to the nation is high: the durability of our institutions is increasingly being undermined and the public's confidence continues to erode, threatening American democracy itself.

John Lodge

Listen to "John Lodge Live From Birmingham" on Spreaker. In September 2016, John Lodge, legendary bass player, song writer and vocalist of The Moody Blues, embarked on a solo tour for the first time in his 50+ year career. John, and his 10,000 Light Years Band, travelled around England, without the huge support team he would normally have with the Moody Blues, playing smaller venues, visiting new places, and the response took his breath way. The last night of that tour was at the Birmingham Town Hall, John’s home town, where the concert was filmed and recorded. This show is now being released as a live album, with artwork designed by Roger Dean, and with exclusive tour merchandise from the 2016 tour, plus a few special surprises, also available. Please note some of the limited edition pieces will be held back until 12pm (UK time). John features tracks from his solo album, 10,000 Light Years Ago, and captures the heart of classic Moody Blues’ songs like ‘I’m Just a Singer (in a Rock and Roll Band),’ ‘Ride My See-Saw,’ ‘Isn’t Life Strange,’ and the never before played live, ‘Candle of Life,’ and more. There is also the classic Blue Jays’ song, ’Saved By The Music’. The CD/DVD package features the full live show on both CD and DVD, with the DVD bringing an additional ‘Journey to Birmingham’ film – available in both NSTC (for US and Canada) and PAL (for Europe and Asia) DVD formats.

Caroline Fraser

Listen to "Caroline Fraser Prairie Fires" on Spreaker. The true story of Laura Ingalls Wilde’s life has never been fully told. The Little House books were not only fictionalized but brilliantly edited, a profound act of myth-making and self-transformation. Now, drawing on unpublished manuscripts, letters, diaries, and land and financial records, Caroline Fraser—the editor of the Library of America edition of the Little House series—masterfully fills in the gaps in Wilder’s story with PRAIRIE FIRES: The American Dreams of Laura Ingalls Wilder [Metropolitan Books]. The first comprehensive historical biography for adults, PRAIRIE FIRES separates Laura Ingalls Wilder the woman from the stereotypes and misconceptions readers of her books might have of her life. Set as it was against nearly a century of dramatic change, Wilder’s life provides a unique perspective on American history and our national mythology of self-reliance, and is both stranger and darker than her books. After a brutally hard childhood on the frontier, Wilder found herself married at 18 and a mother a year later. After a series of personal tragedies, including the loss of a child and her husband’s crippling stroke, Wilder uprooted herself and moved with her husband seven hundred miles south, and began a long climb out of poverty accomplished through grit and hard work. At the age of sixty, after losing nearly everything in the Depression, Wilder turned to children’s books, partially on the urging of her daughter, Rose Wilder Lane, who had found success in the literary trade herself. Fraser’s examination of Wilder’s tumultuous relationship with her daughter sets the record straight regarding charges of ghostwriting that have swirled around the books. With fresh insights and new discoveries, Prairie Fires reveals the complex woman whose classic stories grip us to this day.

Zara Hayes

Listen to "Zara Hayes From Natl Geo Wild" on Spreaker. The series is filled with Fossey’s own observations, recorded in her writings and brought to life by Sigourney Weaver, who has a special connection to Fossey. Weaver won a Golden Globe, and was nominated for an Oscar, for her portrayal of Fossey in the 1988 film “Gorillas in the Mist.” Weaver is uniquely placed to recount Fossey’s firsthand thoughts and feelings. Acclaimed film director, producer and writer James Marsh serves as executive producer on the miniseries. Marsh directed 2008’s “Man on Wire,” the Academy Award-winning documentary about Philippe Petit’s high wire walk between New York’s Twin Towers. Marsh also helmed 2015’s “The Theory of Everything,” the Academy Award- and Golden Globe-nominated film about physicist Stephen Hawking and his relationship with his wife. Dian Fossey: Secrets in the Mist presents exclusive access to rare and unseen footage of Fossey in her daily habituations and up-close studies of gorillas. Also featured are in-depth interviews with her close colleagues and friends, including gorilla researcher and doctoral student Wayne McGuire and friend Sir David Attenborough. Dian Fossey: Secrets in the Mist tells Fossey’s life story from her lonely childhood to her work in Rwanda, where she founded the Karisoke Research Center in September 1967 and spent 18 years studying and protecting the mountain gorilla population there. The series details her close friendship with the young gorilla Digit, whose merciless mutilation and decapitation by poachers would deeply affect Fossey, as well as the people who worked by her side, including National Geographic photographer Bob Campbell, with whom she fell in love but who would leave her heartbroken when he returned to civilization and his wife. Fossey was brutally slain in her remote mountain cabin in 1985. The series explores the investigation around her murder and the subsequent trial of McGuire, who was found guilty in absentia by Rwandan courts. McGuire’s conviction has long been questioned by those familiar with the circumstances, and now — with exclusive access to Fossey’s belongings and personal effects, including objects from the scene of her murder as well as a rare interview with McGuire himself — his claims of innocence are given new credence. Checking in on the legacy of Fossey’s work, Dian Fossey: Secrets in the Mist features footage of the Pablo troop of gorillas, descendants of the very gorillas Fossey studied. Thanks to her work in protecting Rwanda’s mountain gorilla population, the group was able to survive the worst years of poaching and threats to their habitat.

Ray Padgett

Listen to "Ray Padgett Cover Me" on Spreaker. Ray wrote the book after a long article on the story behind Jimi Hendrix covering "All Along the Watchtower" on the blog went viral in 2014. It became one of the book's chapters Devo had to get Mick Jagger to personally approve their Stones cover since it was so weird. They met in a conference room, where they watched Jagger dance around to their recording. "Midnight Train to Georgia" was originally titled "Midnight Plane to Houston." The title was suggested inadvertently by Farrah Fawcett on a phone call with the writer. Glady Knight refused to record it until she heard the plane/train and Houston/Georgia switch. David Byrne did not want to record a cover, since he worried it would be all the Talking Heads would ever been known for. His bandmates and producer Brian Eno persuaded him - but, when it became their first big hit, he refused to ever record another. Elvis Presley wanted to cover "I Will Always Love You" but when he demanded half the songwriting credit, Dolly Parton turned him down. She was distraught - until Whitney Houston covered it. Whitney was supposed to cover a different song for the Bodyguard, but Kevin Costner himself suggested "I Will Always Love You" Trent Reznor didn't like Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt" - until he saw the music video The Gourds' bluegrass "Gin and Juice" cover was arguably the first song to ever go viral on the internet. But it went viral mislabeled as Phish, so the band didn't get the fame or glory from their only hit. About the author: Ray Padgett lives in New York City and also works as a senior music publicist for Shore Fire Media, where his clients have included Ben Harper, Lana Del Rey, and Maxwell. His twitter is @covermesongs, and more of his work can be found at www.covermesongs.com/. His music writing has appeared in SPIN, MTV, Vice, Consequence of Sound, and more, and he’s been interviewed as an expert on cover songs by the Wall Street Journal and the BBC.

Montana Mud

Listen to "Montana Mud" on Spreaker. Growing up in a pair of Montana shoes taught me how to slip free of rainy days and flooded pathways. Once Montana mud gets on your feet the weight of your present moment steals every inch of air from the shape of your lungs. Georgia clay has a way of staining but Montana mud creates a path that invites others to know where you are in every moment delivered. Not always a good thing. Missing from most people's lives is the purity of pure. Not holy or greater than. But waters that evenly flow through the Cyprus gardens of South Carolina. It's the deepest of dark. Beyond black. And yet when you are up close and personal with the presentation there's no question. It's some of the freshest water in the country. How? It looks like poison! What does this have to do with Montana mud? Up north you know who's making your waters murky. In South Carolina every element on the planet has access to making those waters a terrible place to be but it doesn't. Where in your wandering did you pick up that Montana mud? How can you take what you've already lived and purify its purpose to the point of accepting it? Is it as simple as being spiritual or religious, knowing to be fully accountable for each journey of choices and decisions that govern the soils capable of making water murky. How do you convince your mind body and soul to study the beauty in something very ugly?

Soon, we’ll all be able to experience that ‘life’ with the release of this project. It’s more than an album release, it’s the fulfillment of a prophecy in a very tangible way.”

James Younger

Listen to "James Younger From The Story Of Us" on Spreaker. Why do some people rise to power and others do not? Why do we fall in love — not just with romantic partners but with friends and strangers? How has our need to share beliefs built human culture? National Geographic will seek to answer these big questions and many more with new series The Story of Us with Morgan Freeman, premiering Wednesday, Oct. 11, at 9/8c on National Geographic. From the creators of the critically acclaimed series The Story of God with Morgan Freeman, this expansion of the network’s hit franchise once again finds Freeman taking viewers on a global journey to meet with people from different cultures whose lives are shaped in surprising ways by different fundamental forces, this time exploring themes that unite us all. The series will premiere globally in early 2018 on National Geographic in 171 countries and 45 languages. At a time when global events seem to be driving cultures apart, The Story of Us aims to reveal the common humanity that lies inside each one of us. Each of the six hourlong episodes will explore a single fundamental force or topic: freedom, peace, love, social division, power and rebellion. Along the way Freeman meets and speaks with powerful world leaders, ordinary people with extraordinary stories and everyone in between. “ Among those Freeman speaks with on his journeys: Albert Woodfox (“The March of Freedom”), one of three prison inmates put in solitary confinement in Louisiana State Penitentiary in April 1972 after the killing of a corrections officer. He was kept in solitary confinement for more than 43 years until his conviction was overturned in 2014. He was finally released in 2016.

Justin Loeber

Listen to "Justin Loeber Get Out Of Your Own Way" on Spreaker. For the first time in history, we have a President who "covfefes," Millennials speak in forked-tongued abbreviations and Boomers are so-o-o stuck in their antiquated ways, they constantly fear being fired-simply because they might not have a huge following on Twitter. No matter the age, every demographic needs a 911 protection plan because in the era of the thumbnail, it seems we're all misunderstood and disposable. After losing four international and national pop music recording contracts in the 80s (including one with British pop legend Gary Numan and another with Sid Bernstein, who brought the Beatles to America), surviving two cancer scares and the loss of both parents, navigating over 23 years in the publishing industry (starting as a temp at Random House and ending as a SVP, Exec. Director of Marketing and PR for Judith Regan's wing of HarperCollins), and now running a PR and digital agency for eleven years-all without a college degree-Marketing and PR expert, CEO and author, Justin Loeber, is here to give your audience a scrappy, humorous, real-life 101, kick-in-the-pants wake-up call with his new book, Get Out of Your Own Way Guide to Life: 10 Steps to Shift Gears, Dream Big, Do it Now!

Annie Grace

Listen to "Annie Grace This Naked Mind" on Spreaker. Many people question whether drinking has become too big a part of their lives, and worry that it may be even affecting their health. Yet, they resist change because they fear losing the pleasure and stress-relief they associate with alcohol, and assume giving it up will involve feeling constantly deprived and left out. Annie Grace has been there – and she knows how to dig you out of the rut, and set you on the path to a better life. Grace’s THIS NAKED MIND: Control Alcohol, Find Freedom, Discover Happiness and Change Your Life (Avery, Paperback Original, January 2017) has changed the discussion about alcohol, igniting a movement that’s helped thousands of people forever change their relationship with drinking. THIS NAKED MIND dismantles the preconceived notions about why and how we drink, and provides readers with a clear path to a healthier relationship with alcohol –whether that means cutting back on drinking or stopping altogether. As with any dietary choice – the decision to consume gluten, dairy, sugar, meat, and the like – the decision to consume alcohol should be a well-considered, conscious one. The new book THIS NAKED MIND: Control Alcohol, Find Freedom, Discover Happiness and Change Your Life (Avery, Paperback Original, January 2017) provides a deep dive into the science behind how alcohol affects our brains, hearts, immune systems, and mental health, and a roadmap for how to overcome our subconscious drive to drink. THIS NAKED MIND guides readers towards freedom from alcohol without scare tactics, pain, or rules. Interspersed throughout the book are mini-chapter interjections that debunk ingrained beliefs about alcohol one at a time, from “alcohol makes me more confident,” to “alcohol makes me more relaxed,” and even “alcohol improves my sex life.” When it comes down to it, Grace shows that these deep-rooted assumptions are not only untrue – they’re completely illogical. By decoupling the connection between alcohol and pleasure, and dispelling the cultural myth that alcohol is a vital part of life, THIS NAKED MIND offers a permanent solution rather than a lifetime of struggle. It removes the psychological dependence so that you will not crave alcohol, allowing you to easily drink less (or stop drinking). Packed with surprising insight into the reasons we drink, THIS NAKED MIND will open your eyes to the startling role of alcohol in our culture, and how the stigma of alcoholism and recovery keeps people from the getting the help they need. With Annie’s own extraordinary candid personal story at its heart, this book a must-read for anyone looking to reform their relationship with alcohol and detox for a healthier, more fulfilling life.

Carmine Appice

Listen to "Carmine Appice Sinister" on Spreaker. You’re unlikely to find a phenomenon like Carmine and Vinny Appice a second time in the history of rock music. For more than forty years, the two brothers have been among the most sought-after and renowned rock drummers worldwide. Carmine and Vinny (each of them on their own) can be heard on numerous legendary albums and have toured countless times with some of the world’s greatest acts. Carmine embarked on his musical path in the 1960s with the unforgotten Vanilla Fudge, manning in the course of his illustrious career the drums for superstars such as Rod Stewart and Ozzy Osbourne, among others. His brother Vinny, who is eleven years his junior, looks back on an equally spectacular career, having worked with acts such as Black Sabbath, Heaven & Hell and Dio, among others. With the exception of the live album Drum Wars – Live!(2014), there has been no direct collaboration between the two so far. That’s about to change! Sinister is the first joint studio album by Carmine and Vinny and was recorded with the support of a number of prestigious guests. Vinny: “As Ringo said: with a little help from our friends.” The album is scheduled for release on Steamhammer/SPV on 27 October 2017 and marks a long-overdue new development for fans of these two outstanding drummers.

Joe Hagan

Listen to "Joe Hagan Sticky Fingers" on Spreaker. Over the course of several years, Wenner gave Hagan hours of interviews and access to his enormous archive, but in the end, he did not have approval on the material. STICKY FINGERS is an independent chronicle of Wenner’s life, chock full of explosive revelations. “One of the toughest parts of being a journalist is pivoting away from a relationship with the subject to writing about him or her with honesty and integrity,” says Hagan. “It’s also the most crucial part of the job.” Kirkus, in the first pre-publication review, hails STICKY FINGERS as “definitive… a moving portrayal of a complicated, brilliant, flawed man… a man whose thumbprint on the American culture was matched only by a vacillating stew of ego and insecurity. For fans, newbies, and journalism junkies alike, the iconic stories are here… Patty Hearst, John Lennon, Hunter Thompson, Annie Leibovitz, Mick Jagger, etc.” In STICKY FINGERS, Hagan goes deep on the mercurial editor and his legacy by securing on-the-record interviews with Mick Jagger, Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Bono, Art Garfunkel, Elton John, Cameron Crowe, Keith Richards, Pete Townsend, Yoko Ono, Lorne Michaels, Steve Miller, Jon Landau, Dan Aykroyd, Michael Douglas, David Crosby, Jackson Browne, Billy Joel, Bette Midler, David Geffen, Tom Wolfe, Annie Leibovitz, and Danny Fields, among others. Their candid and revealing comments depict the extremes Wenner has been willing to visit in pursuit of both success and pleasure, and help to explain how Rolling Stone became a locus of power and influence and headline-making news, from Altamont to Fear and Loathing to the University of Virginia rape allegation. Hagan lays out the full breadth of Wenner’s life, from his ambitious youth in San Francisco and the uncertain first days of Rolling Stone, to his seismic rise as a 1970s kingmaker of rock and roll and a vainglorious and irascible media mogul of Manhattan. STICKY FINGERS gives readers a nuanced portrait of a man who helped define a generation, and provides an explosive chronicle of an era. Joe Hagan has written for Rolling Stone and also for New York, The Wall Street Journal, and many other publications. He has published long-form profiles and investigative exposés of some of the most significant figures and subjects of our time, including Hillary Clinton in her first post-Secretary of State interview, Karl Rove, the Bush family, Henry Kissinger, Dan Rather, Goldman Sachs, The New York Times, and Twitter.
