Music makes the world better! Eighty-year-old Ted McDermott, a lifelong musician, enjoyed a long career as an entertainer before his Alzheimer's diagnosis in 2013. After the disease took its toll on Ted's relationship with his family, memory and mood, his son Simon found a unique way for them to connect again: carpool karaoke! Simon filmed the pair's joyful singing and the video, ‘Quando Quando Quando – Teddy Mac,’ went viral, garnering sixty million views and touching people's hearts around the world.

Simon McDermott grew up around music. His father, singer Teddy Mac, loves it so throughly that his sheer volume of song knowledge has bourne him the nickname: the Songaminute Man. Then Ted’s alzheimer's diagnosis changed everything. Through the power of music, Simon and Ted McDermott were able to bridge the distance the disease wrought between them, and rediscover their old relationship. The Songaminute Man is Simon McDermott’s tribute to his father, from the man he grew up knowing, to the person he adores now.

Eighty-year-old Ted McDermott, a lifelong musician, enjoyed a long career as an entertainer before his Alzheimer's diagnosis in 2013. Simon filmed the pair's joyful singing and the video, ‘Quando Quando Quando – Teddy Mac,’ went viral, garnering sixty million views and touching people's hearts around the world.

Charting Ted’s incredible life against the backdrop of 1940s Britain to the present day, McDermott brings his father’s extraordinary story to life. From his beginnings as the eldest of fourteen children, as a factory worker struggling to make himself known as a singer, as a Butlin’s Redcoat, a husband, a father, and now an Alzheimer's patient, Ted never gave up on his dream of being a professional singer.
Simon and Ted show that hope can appear even in the most hopeless of times. The Songaminute Man is a beautiful memoir about the pull of the past, the effects of a devastating disease, and the transcendent power of hope and positivity.
