Eric Clapton found peace while hiding within the veins of a band called Derek And The Dominos. We all know Layla and Bell Bottom Blues. New York, NY (July 14, 2015)—There is no denying the immeasurable impact that pianist/guitarist/songwriter Bobby Whitlock has made on music history. As a co-founder of Derek & The Dominos and co-writer of such iconic classics as “Bell Bottom Blues,” Whitlock has also appeared on some of Rock and Roll’s most celebrated albums (George Harrison’s All Things Must Pass and The Rolling Stones Exile On Main Street). This fall, Whitlock and his equally talented partner / wife – guitarist/bassist/saxophonist CoCo Carmel - will hit the road on “The Just Us Tour 2015” – a very special 11-date event presenting an all-acoustic evening of songs hosted in an intimate setting. This formidable duo has worked with some of the most renowned guitarists in the world, and on this tour, which begins on September 11, they have handpicked a different local guitarist to perform with them at each show. The evening’s set list will include Derek & The Dominos gems, specifically songs that Whitlock wrote / co-wrote from their landmark album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs (“Bell Bottom Blues,” “Tell The Truth,” “Keep On Growing,” “Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad,” “I Looked Away,” and others), along with tracks from Whitlock and Carmel’s current CD Carnival (“John The Revelator,” “Devil Blues,” “Nobody Knows,” “River of Life”) and new material from some-to-be-recorded upcoming album. The breadth of the “Just Us” tour set list culminates from the broad history of both Bobby and CoCo’s respective careers. Bobby Whitlock was just 16 when Steve Cropper and Duck Dunn signed him to the Stax Hip label. From there, he left for the west coast in 1969, when Delaney & Bonnie Bramlett asked him to be the first “friend” in their new group. This led to his fortuitous meeting with another young blues prodigy, Eric Clapton, who was a guest “friend” during their European tour, as well as George Harrison, who joined the tour for a few days. Soon after, George Harrison invited Whitlock to perform on his landmark 3LP set All Things Must Pass. During those sessions, Whitlock and Clapton started to write songs together, some of which ended up on Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs, which Whitlock produced. Whitlock’s songwriting contributions on the historic 1970 Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs include “Bell Bottom Blues,” “Keep On Growing,” “I Looked Away,” “Tell The Truth,” “Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad,” “Thorn Tree In The Garden,” and “Any Day.” Whitlock continued to write beloved songs throughout his career. In addition to writing “Roll It Over” with Eric Clapton for Clapton’s 1973 live album Rainbow Concert, he’s had songs covered by Ray Charles (“Slip Away”), George Jones (“Someone You Used To Know),” and Tom Jones (“This Time”). CoCo Carmel has also established a rich musical career, having performed onstage with Dr. John, Phoebe Snow, Jon Bon Jovi, Albert Lee, and Billy Preston, to name a few. She has also produced and co-produced several albums, including her own release First Fruit, which was originally produced by former husband Delaney Bramlett, and unearthed 20 years later, after his passing. She engineers and produces all of her work with Whitlock, including 2013’s Carnival. For the past fourteen years, Bobby Whitlock and CoCo Carmel have been making music and travelling the world. The Just Us 2015 Tour is an evening of incredible music that comes with a side order of rock history.
