Sunday Best made it’s triumphant return this summer after a four-year hiatus to become BET’s most popular show. Hosted by Kirk  Franklin, gospel hopefuls sing inspirational songs and compete. Twenty contestants started the season, and now the competition is down to two finalists: Maryland’s Joshua Copeland and North Carolina’s Melvin Crispell. A winner will be named during the season  9 finale of Sunday Best on BET Sunday, August 25th.

Melvin Crispell is a 21-year-old massage therapist from Charlotte, NC. After losing both of his parents at 16 and battling depression, Melvin never gave up on his dream. Although both of his parents were known gospel singers, Melvin wants to win Sunday  Best to bring and lead others closer to God -- “you can still be cool and love Jesus.” Melvin’s father has written and played for several famous gospel artist and mother was Melvin’s “favorite singer.”
