Real people.  Real stories.  The struggle to Play It Forward.
Episode 49:
One of the top five contestants from Season 9 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Alexis Michelle is a Drag Superstar who always shines onstage. Using her gift of hair and make-up, Alexis has glammed up hundreds of brides for their big day and even been dubbed “the brides best friend” by multiple mother of the brides!
Referred to as the "Queen of the Underground", Justina Valentine has proven she's a clever, quick-witted lyricist, a songwriter with a knack for a memorable hook and an irresistible chorus, and a video performer with an audacious fashion sense.  We talked about Covid-19 and how it shouldn’t be a reason to stop creating.
Hailing from a small town in the UK, Dyson made the move to London at 17 to hustle her way into the music industry. She moved to Sweden at 24 to explore the Swedish pop writing scene, which she feels fully shaped her as a songwriter.  She’s seen and experienced a lot while refusing to let Covid-19 get her down.

Everyone knows Soul Train, but not everyone knows what happened when the music stopped. BET’s hit series American Soul – returning for its second season on May 27 -- is the untold story of the struggle to make the dream of Soul Train come true. Inspired by the personal trials and professional successes of a young, ambitious and troubled impresario Don Cornelius, the 70s period drama is an unflinching look at the entrepreneur, his Soul Train dancers, and musicians set against the backdrop of a cutthroat Hollywood – how they work, play, rise and fall. The series chronicles “the hippest trip in America” and what became of one of the most prominent and groundbreaking television shows for African-American culture.

Nine-time Grammy®-nominated R&B singer Kelly Price plays Brianne Clarke. Extremely wise yet cautious, Brianne is the head of the Clarke household; the mother of Simone and Kendall.  Falling back into her musical roots, Brianne becomes a staple of the Soul Train Club. Kelly Price first earned the reputation as one of the industry’s most sought-after songwriters, before becoming a Grammy-nominated artist in her own right. Her first two albums, Soul of a Woman and Mirror Mirror both went platinum and she’s performed with many of the biggest names in music – from Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston to Aretha Franklin and The Notorious B.I.G.

From a childhood of fatherless poverty to dreams demolished by a random accident to the floor of the United States Senate, New York Times bestselling author Sen. Tim Scott's new book Opportunity Knocks offers a compelling case for what is possible in America today with faith and determination.

A book about seizing opportunity couldn't be more timely. Recognizing that the dire circumstances created by the COVID-19 pandemic required extraordinary action, Scott led the charge to include faith-based organizations in the CARES Act including more than 300,000 churches benefiting from the Corona Virus Relief Act.

In Opportunity Knocks, Scott tells his life story with a focus on adversity and opportunity. Raised in poverty by his single mom, Scott believed athletics would be his way out. But when a tragic car wreck destroyed his dreams of playing college football, he had to find another way.

Opportunity Knocks follows Scott as he comes to faith through Fellowship of Christian Athletes, benefits from a mentor who helped shape his outlook, became a successful small business owner and, eventually, committed to using his political platform to positively affect the lives of a billion people through a message of hope and opportunity.

Scott shows the power in principles of hard work and hope while addressing the dangers of veering too far toward socialist policies. The book does not shy away from discussions of racial inequality in the United States and recounts some of his own brushes with racism.

Opportunity Knocks highlights Scott's belief that investment and commerce are the best ways to rebuild America's most impoverished communities - the idea behind his signature Opportunity Zones legislation strongly endorsed by President Donald Trump. The program provides tax incentives for businesses that invest in low-income urban areas, seeking to replace things like welfare and government assistance.

Pod-Crashing Episode 57 My Conversation with Bobbi Brown

When I first came up with the plan to layout a series of episodes dedicated to Podcasting, I truly didn’t have any mission other than to find my own focus.  I figured if I wrote about this new age shape of broadcasting I’d learn something from the enormous amount of content available.
While collecting notebooks of pen scratches and listening to every professional share their points of direction, the weekly goal was to be a movie style critic for podcasting.  Yeah ok that didn’t happen. I don’t have what it takes to form an opinion about other people’s art.
To me it is an art!  It’s a blizzard white canvas hung on digital walls and millions of people from around the world stop in to check out your gallery.  That’s it!  I host episodes about what it’s like to manage my verbal picture collection.
In doing so I began to share incredible conversations with other well-known podcasters.  But I would never post them as part of Pod-Crashing.  The fear of running out of a good idea.  You can’t develop a podcast with only half of the plan in action.  I waited and waited until one day I finally took note of the pretty long list of podcasters that have been collected.  And the list keeps getting longer.
This week my conversation is with Bobbi Brown.
Bobbi Brown is one of the most renowned names in beauty. But who is the real Bobbi Brown, and what can we all learn from her? The legendary makeup artist walked away from the billion-dollar beauty brand she founded and hasn't stopped creating since. She's a NY Times bestselling author, a certified health coach, and a serial entrepreneur, but her insatiable curiosity doesn't stop there. In Beyond The Beauty, Bobbi Brown enlists top-notch experts across the fields of makeup, wellness, fashion and entrepreneurship, along with her closest friends and family-all in search of the real meaning of beauty.

What it does contain, and what needs to come before the nutrition plan, is the simple steps one can follow to get their mind in the right place. "Regardless of how good a plan might be," says Dr. Ian, "It's not going to be effective if someone can't stick to it or they doubt their ability to succeed."

A perfect companion to any diet program, MIND OVER WEIGHT will help readers maximize their adherence to a plan and ultimately, their results. Not only do these simple strategies apply to weight loss, but also to improving one's life overall.

Puddle Or Mudd

Puddle of Mudd rise from the ashes with their sixth studio album in nearly a decade, entitled Welcome to Galvania. Formed in 1991, Puddle of Mudd has sold over seven million albums and has had a string of number-one singles, including the hits “Blurry,” "She Hates Me," and "Famous." The new album, Welcome to Galvania, was produced by Cameron Webb (Alkaline Trio, Disturbed, Motorhead). It also marks the band’s first full-length album since Volume 4: Songs in the Key of Love and Hate in 2009.

“This album has been a long time coming. I’m just so happy to finally get it out there for my fans,” says Puddle of Mudd’s frontman, Wes Scantlin. “I hope the new music inspires my fans to live their lives. I’m just trying to crawl under people’s skin and help them through their life musically.”

Scantlin has provided Puddle of Mudd with lead vocals and rhythm guitar since the band’s inception. The origins of the band’s name came from the Missouri River flooding, damaging their rehearsal space.

Puddle of Mudd released their first major album, Come Clean, on August 28, 2001, which spawned the singles “Control” and “Blurry.” These hits propelled Puddle of Mudd to reach the No. 5 slot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This success led to the band venturing out on a full-scale European and American tour, hitting the road with Linkin Park, Stone Temple Pilots, and Staind. Come Clean reached triple platinum status in January of 2003.

The subsequent album, Life on Display, was released in 2003 and reached gold status. They went on to release Famous in 2007. In 2009, they released Vol. 4: Songs in the Key of Love and Hate. In 2011, the band released an album of cover songs, entitled Re:(disc)overed.

Now, Puddle of Mudd is ready to return to the rock scene with their sixth studio album, Welcome to Galvania. Inking a deal with Pavement Entertainment, their new material is primed to reach longtime and new fans. “Sometimes in life you come across people who want to bring you down and rip apart your soul. Well, those days are gone,” says Scantlin.  “I have surrounded myself with a great team of people.  They believe in me and I believe in them. I’d like to thank each and every one of them for their hard work and perseverance. I’d also like to thank all of my fans for their patience. This is just the beginning. I have a lot more rock ‘n’ roll in me to share with the world!”

Space Launch Live: America Returns to Space will be simulcast live coast to coast on Wednesday, May 27 at 2pm ET / 11am PT, live from the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. The event marks the first crewed space mission to be launched into orbit from U.S. soil in nine years. A star-studded celebration will proceed the launch as well as a two-hour documentary airing on both Discovery and Science Channel.

The live multiplatform event will take viewers along the mission to launch veteran astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley to the ISS on a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft. On May 27th, NASA and SpaceX will be launching astronauts from the US for the first time since 2011, on SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft to the International Space Station. It will be the first crewed launch for Elon Musk's space company SpaceX and the first time ever NASA has launched astronauts in a commercially built craft, a crucial step towards civilian space travel.

SpaceX consultant (Senior Advisor) and former NASA Astronaut Garrett Reisman is the only astronaut who helped build the program and design the actual rockets and new spacesuits.

Reisman was selected by NASA as a mission specialist astronaut in 1998. His first mission was aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour in 2008, which dropped him off for a 95 day mission aboard the International Space Station after which he returned to Earth aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery. His second mission was aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis in 2010, which returned him to the Space Station. During these missions, he performed 3 spacewalks, operated the Space Station Robot Arm and was a flight engineer aboard the Space Shuttle. After leaving NASA in 2011, Reisman joined SpaceX where he worked for Elon Musk and prepared SpaceX for human spaceflight as the Director of Space Operations. He stepped down from his full-time position at SpaceX in May of 2018 and in June 2018 he became a Professor of Astronautical Engineering in the Viterbi School at USC. He continues to support SpaceX as a Senior Advisor.

The Peggy Lee Estate recently announced Peggy Lee 100, a centennial celebration honoring one of the 20th century's most important musical influences in the world of jazz and popular music.

Throughout 2020, the 100th anniversary of Peggy Lee's birth-May 26, 1920-will be commemorated around the globe with music releases, notable exhibitions, special events, programming and a host of tributes and concerts, including a just-announced Hollywood Bowl tribute concert on August 5, "Miss Peggy Lee at 100 with The Legendary Count Basie Orchestra."

Kicking off The Peggy Lee 100 celebration is the release of Ultimate Peggy Lee, a new collection from Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) available April 17. The 22-track comprehensive set features her hits, five songs she co-wrote, as well as the previously unreleased "Try A Little Tenderness," which makes its world debut 57 years after it was recorded. A full track listing is below.

Born Norma Deloris Egstrom in Jamestown, North Dakota, she was christened Peggy Lee in 1937 by a local North Dakota deejay. A 13-time GRAMMY® Award-nominee, Peggy Lee helped redefine the female singer with her captivating voice, which continues to resonate with audiences of all ages. Her compositions and recordings, including "It's A Good Day," "I Don't Know Enough About You" and "I Love Being Here With You," can be heard today in countless television shows and feature films.

Best known for such songs as "Is That All There Is?," "Fever," "Why Don't You Do Right," and "I'm A Woman," which made her a jazz and pop legend, she recorded over 50 albums and amassed over 100 chart entries. She won the GRAMMY® for Best Contemporary Vocal Performance for her 1969 hit "Is That All There Is?" In 1995, she received the GRAMMY's Lifetime Achievement Award.

Coined "the female Frank Sinatra" by Tony Bennett, Lee did something few of her male counterparts ever attempted: she wrote songs. As one of the foremothers of the singer-songwriter school, Lee ranks among the most successful female singer-songwriters in the annals of American popular music. Over her remarkable seven-decade career, singer, songwriter and composer Peggy Lee wrote over 200 songs and recorded over 1,100 masters.

Her vast and varied catalog of songs have been covered by Tony Bennett, Nat King Cole, Natalie Cole, Bing Crosby, Doris Day, Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland, Diana Krall, Queen Latifah, Barry Manilow, Bette Midler, Janelle Monae, Nina Simone, Regina Spektor and Sarah Vaughan.

Episode 45: Protecting The Pack
According to a recent Kaiser Family Foundation survey, forty-five percent of adults said the pandemic affected their mental health. But it’s not just adults for whom the pandemic has taken a mental toll. School closures, canceled graduations and proms, isolations from friends, and the possibility of colleges not opening this fall have all contributed to stress and anxiety for children and teens – particularly those with mental health issues or special needs.

Peggy Rowe is at it again-this time giving a hilarious inside look at growing up Rowe, both before and after Mike's rise to fame.

Since the day they said, "I do," Peggy's previous "doting" lifestyle met with her husband John's minimalist ways and became the backdrop for years of adventure and a quirky sense of humor because of their differences. From thoughts of wearing headlamps in the house to save energy, to squeezing out the last drop of toothpaste with a workbench vise, Peggy learned to pick her battles and celebrate the hilarity in each situation.

Once their boys were born, woodstove mishaps and garbage dumping tales were the seed for Mike's obsession with doing dirty jobs and the comical presence he is known for today.

As Mike rose to fame, Peggy was his biggest fan-who gave motherly advice and constructive criticism, of course. She baked cookies for Mike to take to Joan Rivers for a Christmas party hostess gift, and even wrote fan letters under faux names and mailed them from different cities to Mike's producer.

By the time Mike hits it big, Peggy and John retire to face more adventures, with a lightning strike in their condo, an elderly friend who ate marijuana leaves, and entering into celebrity status by making Viva paper towel and Lee jeans commercials, plus so much more.

Peggy's stories relive the details that intrigue and entertain old and new fans alike. So if you want a bigger, even funnier take on the Rowe family, About Your Father and Other Celebrities I Have Known delivers.

This year, the Russians are taking an unprecedented move by revamping their crab quota system, and in turn, cutting down on illegal fishing. Now, the price of King Crab is slated to skyrocket, igniting the most cut-throat season yet. The quicker the captains can catch their crab and return to dock, the more money they can make. Everyone is vying for an edge – luring back some of the fleet’s most legendary faces. But just how hard can they push before things get deadly?

It's a competition so fierce, the captains must push into uncharted territory, including one veteran actually going to Russia. This season will bring new fishing alliances, former Catch captains returning to the fleet and a global, headline-grabbing winter storm that pounds their crab boats. Captains Sig Hansen and Josh Harris will share what fans can expect and what it takes to survive the world’s most deadly profession.
In Deadliest Catch: Bloodline, Captain Phil Harris was a legend on the Bering Sea who spent decades fishing the icy and treacherous waters off the coast of Dutch Harbor, Alaska. He captained the F/V Cornelia Marie for more than 20 years, and after his tragic passing, his son Josh Harris took over the family business, along with business partner Casey McManus. Now, an unbelievable discovery of mysterious Hawaiian fishing charts scribbled with Captain Phil’s handwriting, notes and statistics, has prompted Deadliest Catch captain and Alaskan legacy fisherman Josh Harris to take a once-in-a-lifetime quest to Hawaii, to learn about the time his late father spent fishing there decades ago.

Overlooking my forest in south Charlotte I came across a wandering thought about the truest form of lessons we could take from any of this mess baring the name Covid-19? Yeah yeah wash your hands and do all you can to socially distance yourself from people you assume are your friends. On this podcast I take a deep look into the awareness of simplicity. I'm amazed at how many people outside the road race to get back to a normal have made their journey moving forward. Simple. Less hectic and stress free. A step toward truly locating this thing called peace and its got nothing to do with how much money you're making. To begin a path of living more simple my wife and I have leaped onto a path that's called The Swedish Death Cleaning. Meaning you get rid of everything that would have no value inside another persons life after your passing. Simplifying the identity has got to be a part of this as well. How much junk do we have on our social media and why is it there collecting digital weight. I'll post things at 3pm on a Monday and take it down by the next day. Real thoughts have no purpose in a growing moment. I probably took this on because I get tired of reading Facebook entries about people not feeling well or finding a day of victory and they respond with "Oh that was last month,." I'm amazed at how nature has reacted during their Coronavirus shut down. We are being served one of the most beautiful Springs ever. Turning our lives around hasn't been the easiest but the payoff seems to be taking on the shape of simpler thoughts, actions and predictions. Which scares me because what will life switch back to when all business doors are open and company leaders need to save the four walls they were hired to protect? The truth of the story doesn't rest in their clutches. It's up to you. A choice. Keeping it simple is house cleaning your mind body and soul. Being aware is your best tool. Hit those closets.

Hey it’s Arroe.  This is Play It Forward.  A look at the unexpected changes endured by entertainers, writers, camera people and all others affected but not infected by the global invasion of the Coronavirus.
Real people.  Real stories.  The struggle to Play It Forward.
Episode 43: Music On The Move
Juno Award Winning and Certified Gold selling International R&B Artist Dru landed his latest release YNF right smack dab in the middle of a global pandemic.  It was extremely important to him because he’s been working with a team of hit-making songwriters and producers from back when he was in the Popular R&B group In Essence.  Sure, being part of the music scene today sits on the suck side but with enough musicians getting involved things will continue growing forward.

404Vincent is no new comer to the virus side of life.  Coming from the Toronto area reshapes the experience he recently through with Sars.  Plus he talks about the early moments of having to make the jump toward a live performance on Instagram.
Joey Sykes is another singer/songwriter that refuses to let Covid 19 keep him from releasing new vibes.  His song is titled Let’s Get Through This.
That’s Play It Forward.  You can listen to the full conversations with these artists on three different podcasts. Like Its Live, Unplugged and Totally Uncut and View from the Writing Instrument found on all digital platforms.

Micah was born and raised in Tokyo to Christian missionary parents. As one of nine children, he turned to singing and taught himself to play guitar in order to set himself apart from his siblings. Micah later moved to the U.S. to attend the University of Virginia. Eager to fit in, he joined an acapella group and continued to work on his personal music. After graduating, Micah pursued a career in business, but felt that he should be doing music instead. Micah quit his job last year and moved to Atlanta to start a band and to be closer to his family. Micah currently works at his brother’s brewery and is focusing entirely on his music.

The oldest child in a troubled Philadelphia family, Angel Ferente struggles to care for her three sisters while pursuing her goal of attending college on a swimming scholarship. She has a problematic relationship with her mother, Pic, who uses alcohol and drugs to self-medicate and at one point lost custody for a year, and an outright hostile relationship with her stepfather, the only father figure in her life. Angel is the center of stability in the household―making sure the younger girls get to school, ensuring that holidays are observed, doing the family’s laundry at her part-time job at a Laundromat, and even taking care of Pic when she is sick or depressed. It’s 1993, the midst of the crack epidemic, and Angel and her sisters are witness to the everyday events of life in a community beset by poverty and drugs: dealers on the corner, shoot-outs that kill bystanders, prostitutes on the job, and more. Then Angel goes to a team party on New Year’s Eve―and doesn’t come home afterward. In the wake of her disappearance, her teammates, her coach’s church, and her family search the city for her. The result changes their lives forever.

Real people.  Real stories.  The struggle to Play It Forward.
Episode 42:  Different Walks Of Life On The Same Path
Releasing a brand new three record set of music in the middle of a pandemic seems like an odd thing to do.  I mean Hollywood is still clutching to their springtime releases hoping for a better Fall but Whitesnakes David Coverdale says let the music go!
Coach Demir presently stars in the new 8 part series 4th and Forever.  His high school football strategy is straight ahead discipline with a presence with family and faith.  Right now his series on Curiosity Stream is the only game in town.  A game that could easily change because of the new social distancing rules.
Congressman Bruce Franks Jr has made it to MTV!  But not as the battle rapper he was during his early seasons.  His story is shared in the movie St Louis Superman.  He knows there needs to be change on our streets and to get it someone has to be on them.  What about the young adults and kids with no school and no work?
That’s Play It Forward.  You can listen to the full conversations with these artists on three different podcasts. Like Its Live, Unplugged and Totally Uncut and View from the Writing Instrument found on all digital platforms.

The definitive, no-holds-barred biography of John Entwistle, The Who's legendary bass guitarist. It is an unequivocal fact that in terms of rock bands, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Who represent Year Zero; the beginning of all things, ground-breakers all.

To that incontrovertible end, John Entwistle-the Who's beloved bassist-remains an enigmatic yet undeniably influential figure, renowned as much for his immense talent as for his gloriously oversized-seeming character. However, unlike his fellow musicians, Entwistle has yet to be the subject of a major biography. In the years since his death, his enduring legacy has been carefully guarded by his loved ones, preventing potential biographers from gaining close enough access to write a definitive account of his extraordinary life-until now. For the first time, and with the full co-operation of the Entwistle family, The Ox shines a long overdue light on one of the most important figures in rock history.

Drawing on his own notes for an unfinished autobiography that he started before his death in 2002, as well as his personal archives and interviews with his family and friends, The Ox gives readers a never-before-seen glimpse into the two very distinct poles of John Entwistle. On the one hand, he was the rock star incarnate-larger than life, self-obsessed to a fault, and proudly and almost defiantly so. Extravagant with money, he famously shipped vintage American cars across the Atlantic without having so much as a driver's license, built exponentially bigger and grandiose bars into every home he owned, and amassed an extraordinary collection of possessions, from armor and weaponry to his patented Cuban-heel boots. But beneath this fame and flutter, he was also a man of simple tastes and traditional opinions. He was a devoted father and family man who loved nothing more than to wake up to a full English breakfast, or to have a supper of fish, chips, and a pint at his local pub.

After his untimely death, many of these stories were shuttered away into the memories of his family and friends. At long last, The Ox introduces us to the man behind the myth-the iconic and inimitable John Entwistle.
