Just a few months ago, master of comedy James S. Murray-known to fans as "Murr"-starred in IMPRACTICAL JOKERS: THE MOVIE, which ended its second weekend in wide release with a total of over $11 million, and celebrated the highest per-screen average among major releases. Murr is also known for his hysterical comedy work in truTV's immensely popular Impractical Jokers program, holding strong as the #1 unscripted comedy on television; the first 4 seasons of Impractical Jokers will also be released on HBO Max, launching May 27th. Murr is also proud to be starring in TBS's hilarious show The Misery Index, which recently kicked off its second season, and "Impractical Jokers: Dinner Party," a brand new show on truTV where the Tenderloins bring their signature quirky humor to quarantine, which premiered May 21st.
In addition to his film and TV work, Murr is back with OBLITERATION (Harper Voyager; June 23, 2020), the third chilling installment in the international bestselling Awakened series he has written with celebrated science fiction author Darren Wearmouth. Asked how he got into writing this exciting series of novels, Murr says it was the culmination of a lifelong passion.
"I've been a huge fan of science fiction and horror my entire life, and AWAKENED draws inspiration from movies that scared the hell out of me like Alien, The Thing, Event Horizon, and The Descent. When I wrote the thriller, I wanted it to feel like an edge of your seat TV show or movie. It took over a year to finish and thirteen years to get published, and I've never been more passionate about a project in my life!"
The resulting novel, Awakened, exploded onto the scene. The terrifying premise: a new subway line, desperately needed in New York City was finally unveiled.but the excavation unleashed a scourge of murderous beasts.
Last year, the duo followed up with the blockbuster The Brink, which followed former NYC Mayor Tom Cafferty as he fought the demons of that fateful day when the Z-train subway unveiling became a massacre-as well as the subterranean creatures that were spreading across the globe. Cafferty took on Albert Van Ness, mastermind behind an insidious corporation that controlled the world from the shadows by harnessing the bloodthirsty monsters. The end of The Brink sees Van Ness imprisoned for his crimes, thanks to Cafferty, ex-NYPD officer Sarah Bowcut, and tech-expert Diego Munoz.
This summer Murr and Wearmouth return with OBLITERATION, a crescendo of creature horror and fast-paced thrills that ramps up the tension and terror higher than ever before!
