June 28, 2021

Stream thinking is no different than two people at a pub blurting out an atmosphere of whatever’s in the moment.  We see a lot of stream writing on social media.  Especially when people send something out and your mouth drops.  Gulp!  Ok.  Didn’t know.  I challenge myself not only as a writer but a performer to trust what’s happening right now.  It can be a dangerous walk because the receiver can easily cancel culture you. How far are you willing to go with your writing without inviting someone to tune out?  A good example is my rant about how we were all so damn noisy during the lockdown. Why are we wearing these masks? Why aren’t businesses open?  The gyms are closed!  I wanna see live music then a comedian!  Now that the wall has fallen and nothings standing in the way…  Where are you? You aren’t at the movie theater!  You aren’t showing up at local restaurants.  Those family home grown kitchens are dropping like flies.  Where are you?  You made a lot of noise but you aren’t showing off your freedom.  Too early for a guilt trip?  Binge watching television has put us in a weird state of accepting not just a new normal but new culture.  I was listening to Rob Lowe’s podcast with Jimmy Kimmel.  The late night talk show host once frequented local hangouts three times a week.  Today he can barely handle one dinner out.  Rob’s response was priceless, “We’ve gone from 16 months of seclusion into a very loud world.  The mind is having a difficult time digesting everybody else’s noise.”  Why aren’t we going to movie theaters?  Because we don’t want to.  The power of choice!  Take that!  I made a decision.  Mine! Mine!  A system of delivery that feels like a chore to drive three miles to a movie house.  We are no different than a dog begging for a treat.  They want and want.  Pant, race around the house, bark and scratch at your leg.  The very second you give them the treat the dog drops it on the floor and walks away.  Do something with your freedom.  Get back into localism by way of supporting business.

So much expectation.  My God we put so much pressure on ourselves daily.  So much expectation.  Not enough time to make the desired delivery.  Our minds have been overtaken by what “it” feels is the proper path and rightful journey.  Yet the heart is still undecided.  The heart.  Will they ever agree?  Living a life of being in the present robs from the ambition to dream.  To be mindful of my here means I have to be here.  To have a goal or inner feeling or need of being greater tomorrow takes me away from here.  That’s extremely difficult to digest.  The ambition is to do all we can to slow down the ticks on a clock.  We can’t gather the right amount of required strength to push back the hands of time.  Where is the knowledge to properly keep the calendar at a digestible behavior?  I say this while trying to convince myself that time has its own personality.  Time hasn’t changed!  It’s still sixty seconds to make up a minute.  Sixty minutes to create an hour and we only get twenty four per day.  So much expectation.  The Covid lockdown did happen right?  The repercussions have infected not just this generation but the next seven.  I read an article yesterday about how millions don’t want to go back to a normal way of living.  This new way of walking has opened so many different points of direction.  Business leaders are creating deadlines as to when the entire gang has to report to their company desk. The reluctant are shaking their heads, “Nope.  Not gonna happen.”  Watching your behavior is a great place of study.  I know how we got here.  To free ourselves from it is the texture.  It’s not about air friers and insta-pots.  From what I’m experiencing through the art of listening It’s not even about the fear of coming down with Covid in a society where barely 50% have been vaccinated.  We got a huge taste of what it’s like to have space and we liked it.  Now we crave it.  Need it.  Will sacrifice everything to get back to that feeling of having it.  The business world has changed and will continue to evolve.  The best of the best won’t be coming back.  It steals from what little time is left.  For a moment the entire world held in their hearts what it’s like to wonder if this is our last summer.

June 22, 2021

The birthing moments of a new season.  Whether it’s physically outside or inside you.  The birthing moments.  I live in a forest.  To watch it waking up after a winters nap is a never ending story.  Bright purple flowers, elegant white pedals, itty bitty green leaves and the scent of pollen.  It weakens my head to have so much of this birthing of a new season inside my head.  And what do we do as the human to share with these trees and other surroundings?  We toss in the distant roar of a highway taken over by cars, crank up the sounds of a lawnmower devouring green blades of grass and weeds and flood the planet with the wide array of sounds caused by the music pouring from our digital devices.  There’s always something to see when we let go of what we think brings us entertainment.  A red tail hawk has built a nest in my forest.  Its morning conversation is vibrant as well as ear shattering.  There’s already heat from the early summer sky which is blocked out by an umbrella of limbs promising to protect my skin.  And what do we have to give?  Is our true gift allowing a collection of trees to just be?  Can we be just friends, writers and poets, dreamers and whatever else?  Everyday a new season arrives within.  How do you handle the constant need to be a taker?  When do you decide to give? This isn’t about sending checks and or buying canned goods to donate.  Giving to the atmosphere that makes up your present place of Now.  I penned out a question in my daily prayer, “How do we know it’s you?”  In this present place of Now a summertime rain cloud is giving to the roots of all of these trees.  How do we know it’s you?  It’s right there in front of your taking!  The goal is to figure out how to give back.

June 21, 2021

We’re all very guilty of it.  Being a half asser.  It’s a subject that burns a lot of bridges.  Cuz nobody wants to wear the badge that says you’re a half asser.  Being a team leader I’m deeply bothered by someone’s decision to half ass a project.  That means someone else is going to called in to clean up the half ass job.  I’ve done research on this.  The best way to handle a half asser is to call them out.  Don’t let them get away with half assing an expectation.  They’ll half ass it every time you give them the task.  I think we’re in the presence of a half ass moment of business history.  The decision to return to the place of work or stay home.  Although the experts say productivity is at an all-time high those in control believe the process of success cannot be greater tomorrow without some face to face time.  I can’t comment on what it’s like to do work from home because I’ve been on the frontline since September of 2020.  I’m digging the adventure!  Whereas there are people in my life struggling to make it back to the office.  What does that have to do with half assing?  CEO’s aren’t ever going to change.  If your butt isn’t in the chair what do you think?  But they’ve got to be careful.  At no time in the history of America have employees had the upper hand on making career decisions.  When bosses are saying “Be at work.” Those being confronted are saying, “I’m no longer part of your process of success.” Face The Nation just did a huge report on this!  Bosses are still attached to 2019.  Employees are locked in on where the future is growing.  Still…  What does this have to do with half assing?  Who is the half ass in this picture of business?  The CEO who wants to walk the way of the old days or the employee that makes their way back to work?  My broadcast career is brought to life in a home studio.  I love being here!  My essential job cannot be done from here.  I took on that essential job because I needed to be with people.  Oh my God!  If you could read my journals and hear my prayers.  I needed to get back out there!  That’s where I met a huge half ass group of people that report to work but don’t complete the full expectation.  For leaders it’s a new learning process.  One that deserves to put the employee far ahead of the decision maker.  I don’t make demands.  I listen.  I study their process.  The goal is to make a daily connection.  To become part of their budding new normal.  The moment department heads, GM’s and other leaders make the decision to dominate the moment is the clearer picture of how they’re going to half ass the success.  My way or the highway.  In the hearts of the employee “Well ok.  Your next hire is maybe sixth or seventh best.”  We’ve got to reach beyond half assing.  The future arrives with ever tick on the clock.

June 17, 2021

Pushing through the page.  When flow isn’t being met by the expectations fed by adventure.  Pushing through the page.  Instead of walking away, the push is to remain.  To be present.  To locate the lack of flow and study the cause of the blockage.  Creative minds aren’t the only travelers that deal with this moment of truth.  You feel as if nothings moving.  You’re standing there with all kinds of emotions.  But nothings flowing.  Is it because every day feels like every day?  A series and system of habits.  Everything’s laid out like pillows on a bed.  I’m supposed to feel this way that this time. This is when my mood will change.  I’ll take the dog for a walk at this time and I will feel this.  We are in the same frame of mind.  It’s not just me!  I see it in you!  I daily write at the same time every morning.  I constantly blame it on the clock.  I need to be here by such and such time or the flow of my day will become damaged.  How do you get through this?  You’ve got to call yourself out.  Be upfront with your inner laziness.  Through awareness make your moment a movement and not a stalemate in chess.  There’s a cause to every effect.  Pushing through the page invites process as it churns into progress.  I was shocked to read that the CEO of Morgan Stanley has ordered employees to be back at work 100% by September 2021.  Shocked because I thought we had evolved into a new generation of workplace doers.  Pushing through the page in the home office was new age.  LinkedIn posted a story about presenteeism.  According to my computer dictionary it’s not even a word.  Yet what it represents is very real.  Presenteeism is being physically in a chair at work to appear dedicated.  Pushing through the page.  When flow isn’t being met by the expectations fed by adventure.  If you thought the pandemic was a setback the darker side of this journey through time is yet to be born.  Rent is due, food and gas prices are soaring, every day there’s a new Covid variant and your boss is promoting presenteeism.  Pushing through the page.  You are the owner and CEO of Me Inc.  Winning is a choice.
