Learning to turn the mind off while physically getting it back on in less than six hours. We all go through this. Elvis Presley needed drugs to sleep and drugs to wake up. Look at what we’re doing today, workout power mixes, power drinks, huge espressos, protein bars and more. Whatever it takes to reengage the energy required to pull off the moment and day. In keeping up with the Jones’ the mind becomes brutally abused. We’re exhausting our ambitions. The goals are to gain by way of filling our egos. But I have to ask. Mindfully are you present with your place of purpose? Are you grateful for its place in you? Two completely different frames of thought. Mindfully are you present with your place of purpose? Are you grateful for its place in you? A young adult talked to me about their ambitions to study psychology. My favorite subject! I was completely drawn to the conversation only to hear, “Well maybe not. I mean it’s going to take a long time to get there. I want to be successful now.” Just like mindfulness and gratefulness there are two sides to this. I understand their point of direction while knowing where a 42 year radio career has taken me. Investing in your calling demands attention. Time can’t be the issue. Time is your tool. A platform. The motivator and obviously for this young adult time is also a deflator. Mindfully are you present with your place of purpose? Are you grateful for its place in you? The best part of my 42 years in radio has nothing to do with the ratings or the size of the city but rather the decision to invest the energy into a thought. To take a source of content felt in a moment of now and turning it into a rolling actuality. In 2012 very very few people knew what podcasting was. I knew it had to become my life and path. Chrysler was bragging about their cars featuring Wi-Fi. I still remember sitting there on the sofa telling my wife how important it was to make the investment. To sacrifice the way I did when my journey in radio began in my bedroom in 1975. I had to let that child realize his dream had a brand new face. Mindfully are you present with your place of purpose? Are you grateful for its place in you? I did respond to the young adult, “If you truly feel the calling to get into psychology please know in your heart that time is not the important part here. It’s the lives you’re going change. Put the people first.”
