Dr Buck Parker from NBC's The Island

You don't get voted off. There are no winners. Just survival. NBC's the Island hits takes 14 normal men and puts their skills of survival on a playing ground unseen before on American television. This isn't a competition. This show is about making it to the end. From the iHeart Radio Studio I'm Unplugged and Totally Uncut with Dr. Buck Parker. NBC has announced the 14 men who will see if they have what it takes to survive on the new man vs. nature series “The Island.” In the six-episode series which premieres Monday, May 25, internationally acclaimed adventurer and survivalist Bear Grylls offers men from across the country the ultimate challenge: Can the average American man survive on a deserted island without the luxuries — or even the basics — of contemporary everyday life? "Man has never been further from his hunter-gatherer origins," said Grylls. "We take food, shelter, warmth for granted; we click buttons rather than test our resourcefulness. I want to find out what happens when you strip people of all the comforts of modern life – does 21st Century American man still have it in him to fight for his survival? Or has that incredible pioneering spirit been lost forever? The Island sets out to answer that question." “The Island,” based on the hit Channel 4 U.K. series of the same name, doesn’t include any of the usual reality show trappings. There are no prizes. No eliminations. No winner. The six episodes, produced by Endemol Shine North America, will leave 14 American men isolated on a deserted island committed to filming every moment themselves with only the clothes on their backs and minimal survival tools.
