Shaina Farrow
From Saturday Night Live Jay Pharaoh's big sister Shaina has stepped away from managing the nationally successful comedian to share with the world the music she's always held back. From the iHeart Radio Studio I'm Unplugged and Totally Uncut with the fresh new R&B sounds of Shaina Farrow
Shaina Farrow began singing almost as soon as she could speak. (Her parents have the cassette tapes to prove
it.) Her love for R&B formed early on, as the rich sounds of Patty Austin and Luther Vandross would awaken
her each Saturday morning. An uncle recognized Shaina’s ability and put her in the studio at just 11 years old.
She would go on flirting with music, singing in school plays, performing in church, joining her high school’s
gospel choir—but her interests began to grow beyond music and she was accepted to Virginia Commonwealth
University as a biology major.
Although academia took precedence, Shaina never abandoned the music. She started singing references for
artist hopefuls and eventually got the courage to hit a few open mics. But it was karaoke where she found real
comfort. “Karaoke was a safe place to try music that you wouldn’t normally sing, and if you screwed it up it
didn’t really matter,” Shaina laughs. But she didn’t often screw up, and in fact starting winning many karaoke
competitions in and around Richmond, VA. Around that same time, her brother, soon to be known to the
world as Jay Pharoah, began making strides in his stand up career. He enlisted Shaina’s assistance and soon
became her first client. She’s dedicated the last few years to help her brother’s dreams come true. Now she’s
decided to take a chance on herself.
Shaina’s first single, More Than Thru With You, is now available on iTunes, Google Play, Amazon and Spotify.
